@rach.e.lle Healthcare Equality for LGBTQIA+ people needs to be taken more seriously, thank you so much @itvnews for talking to me & highlighting the health inequalities for LGBQTIA+ folk with a cervix The stats show that: 🩸1 in 5 LGBT people have never been tested for HPV 🩸37% people told they do not need a test 🩸14% have been refused or actively discouraged This is medical negligence based on assumptions about how lesbians, trans men, intersex folk and lgbqtia+ people with a cervix navigate sex and physical intimacy. These harmful assumptions are a direct result of the lack of LGBTQIA+ education and sensitivity training in schools, workplaces and care services. Queer people exist and it’s about time our Government @uklabour recognise and work to actively dispel the discrimination and inequality that LGBQTIA+ people face in healthcare, especially the treatment and access for our Trans and Gender Non-Conforming loved ones. If your GP has told you that you don’t need a smear test based on your sexuality please report them and book in with another practitioner!
